Attendance

Pearl Harbor Kai pays close attention to a student’s attendance. Students who are in school less than one-half of the school day are marked absent for the entire day.  For example, your child will be marked absent if he or she leaves campus prior to 11:00 am and does not return to school or if he/she comes to school after 11:00 am. If your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required upon return.

Family vacations are encouraged during our school breaks to minimize absence from class. If you are going on a trip or a family emergency arises that your child will miss more than 5 consecutive days of school please contact your school administrator.  Daily attendance is important to ensure academic success and your child’s grades may be affected by loss of instructional time.

Students who are chronically tardy or absent (more than 10 days) will be referred to the administrators for follow up action with parents. Administration will work with parents to provide support to assist with improved attendance and student success.

Absences: Parents must notify the school by:

  • calling the office at 421-4245 by 8:30 AM on the day of the absence giving your child's name, room number, grade, and brief reason for the absence, AND
  • sending a note with the child when he or she returns to school
  • only those absences with a doctor’s note will be considered excused

Tardies: Students who arrive after 7:55 AM must report to the office for a tardy slip.

Classroom Interruptions

In an effort to maximize instruction in all core subjects, we need your help with minimizing classroom interruptions to allow for maximum time for student learning.  Please contact the office if you need to speak to the teacher or relay a message to your child. In addition, personal cell phones that become a distraction or interrupt instruction will be confiscated if used during school hours.  Parents will be contacted and asked to pick up the phone in the office.

We understand that birthdays are special occasions for all children.  You may arrange a small celebration with your child’s teacher for the late afternoon.  No balloons are allowed and healthy treats are encouraged.

Early Release

If your child must be released during the school day, please call the office or send a note to the teacher including the time of dismissal.  Parents must sign their children out in the office. An official pass will be issued and the student will be called down to the office. For safety reasons, students are not permitted to leave school unescorted.  Please try to schedule appointments before or after school whenever possible.
